Characteristics of PolySilicon Technology

First: Difference in appearance

Technical features of polysilicon From the appearance, the four corners of the monocrystalline silicon cell are arc-shaped, and there are no patterns on the surface; while the four corners of the polysilicon cell are square corners, and the surface has patterns similar to ice flowers; and the amorphous silicon cell is what we usually call the thin-film component. It is not like the crystalline silicon cell that can see the grid line, and the surface is as clear and smooth as a mirror.

Second: Difference in use

Technical features of polysiliconFor users, there is not much difference between monocrystalline silicon cells and polysilicon cells, and their lifespan and stability are very good. Although the average conversion efficiency of monocrystalline silicon cells is about 1% higher than that of polysilicon, since monocrystalline silicon cells can only be made into quasi-squares (all four sides are arc-shaped), when forming a solar panel, part of the area will not be filled; and polysilicon is square, so there is no such problem. Their advantages and disadvantages are as follows:

Crystalline silicon components: The power of a single component is relatively high. Under the same floor area, the installed capacity is higher than that of thin-film components. However, the components are thick and fragile, with poor high-temperature performance, poor weak-light performance, and high annual attenuation rate.

Thin-film components: The power of a single component is relatively low. However, it has high power generation performance, good high-temperature performance, good weak-light performance, small shadow-blocking power loss, and low annual attenuation rate. It has a wide range of application environments, is beautiful, and environmentally friendly.

Third: Manufacturing process

The energy consumed in the manufacturing process of polysilicon solar cells is about 30% less than that of monocrystalline silicon solar cells. According to the technical characteristics of polysilicon, polysilicon solar cells account for a large share of the total global solar cell output, and the manufacturing cost is also lower than that of monocrystalline silicon cells, so the use of polysilicon solar cells will be more energy-saving and environmentally friendly.

polysilicon is a form of single-element silicon. polysilicon is regarded as the “foundation” of the microelectronics industry and the photovoltaic industry. It is a high-tech product that spans multiple disciplines and fields such as chemical industry, metallurgy, machinery, and electronics. It is an important basic raw material for the semiconductor, large-scale integrated circuit and solar cell industries, and is an extremely important intermediate product in the silicon product industry chain. Its development and application level has become an important symbol for measuring a country’s comprehensive national strength, national defense strength, and modernization level.
