Introduction of Silicon metal

Metal Silicon,  is a crucial industrial raw material with a wide range of applications in metallurgy, chemical industry, electronics, and more. It is primarily used as an additive in non-ferrous base alloys.

1. Composition and Production:

Metal Silicon is produced by smelting quartz and coke in an electric furnace. It contains approximately 98% silicon (with some grades containing up to 99.99% Si), and the remaining impurities include iron, aluminum, calcium, and others

. The production process involves the reduction of silicon dioxide with carbon at high temperatures, resulting in a silicon purity of 97-98%.

2. Classification:

Metal Silicon is categorized based on the content of iron, aluminum, and calcium it contains. Common grades include 553, 441, 411, 421, and others, each designated by the percentage of these impurities.

3. Physical and Chemical Properties:

Metal Silicon is a gray, hard, and brittle material with a metallic luster. It has a melting point of 1410°C and a boiling point of 2355°C. It is a semiconductor and does not react with most acids at room temperature but dissolves easily in alkalis. It is also known for its high hardness, non-absorbency, thermal resistance, acid resistance, wear resistance, and aging resistance.

4. Applications:

Alloy Production: Metal Silicon is used in the production of silicon alloys, which are strong composite deoxidizers in steelmaking, improving the quality of steel and increasing the utilization rate of deoxidizers.

Semiconductor Industry: High-purity monocrystalline silicon is vital for making electronic devices such as integrated circuits and transistors.

Organic Silicon Compounds: Used in the production of silicone rubber, silicone resins, and silicone oils, which are known for their high-temperature resistance and are used in various industrial applications.

Solar Energy: It is a key material in the manufacturing of solar cells and panels, contributing to the development of renewable energy sources.

5. Market Dynamics:

The global Metal Silicon market is influenced by various factors, including raw material supply, production capacity, and market demand. The market experiences price fluctuations due to supply and demand relationships and raw material costs.

6. Safety and Storage:

Metal Silicon is non-toxic but can be hazardous when inhaled as dust or when it reacts with certain substances. It should be stored in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated warehouse, away from fire sources and heat.

Metal Silicon remains a cornerstone material in the modern industry, contributing to technological advancements and sustainable energy solutions.
